How To Help!

Thank you for considering a contribution to St. Louis Learning Disabilities Association (LDA). By donating today, YOU will make a difference in the life of a child, their family and our community!

St. Louis Learning Disabilities Association relies solely on the financial support of individuals, corporations, foundations and fundraising events. In addition, we derive some income from program and testing fees. We do not receive any federal or state government funding or United Way allocations.

There are many ways to support St. Louis LDA and every contribution has  a direct impact on the lives of the children, families and teachers we serve.  The need in our community is enormous and St. Louis LDA is working feverishly to meet the needs of all children so that they no longer have to experience the negative effects of learning disabilities.  In 2009, St. Louis LDA helped 29,573 children, families, and professionals.  The demand is overwhelming!

Does St. Louis LDA make a difference?  Just ask Tommy, one of the 29,573 individuals that had been helped last year.  Tommy came to us unable to read and presented as a behavior problem in school.  His  mother is a drug abuser and alcoholic, and as a result, Tommy has a significant learning disability.  Luckily, one of his family members took  him in and found St. Louis LDA.  Tommy’s life last year was horrendous – tears every day, failing school, teachers giving up on him.  I’m happy to report that in May 2009, thanks to intervention from St. Louis LDA, Tommy received an award – The Most Improved Student – in front of the entire school!

Tommy is just one of the thousands who receive help from St. Louis LDA thanks to donors like YOU!

On behalf of Tommy and the thousands of children with learning disabilities, thank you for your consideration in making a contribution to St. Louis Learning Disabilities Association.

In-Kind Gifts

St. Louis Learning Disabilities Association hosts several fundraisers each year, many of which have a Silent Auction component. We are always looking for these types of donations to be used at our events in an effort to help raise more funds. These in-kind donations can range from gift baskets, jewelry, time at a vacation home, even professional sporting tickets.

Consider hosting a Gift Gathering Party to collect items from your friends and family! This is a great opportunity to generate a buzz about St. Louis LDA and our events – a St. Louis LDA staff member would be happy to attend your event and discuss the upcoming fundraiser and new happenings within the organization.

If you would like more information, or have a possible in-kind item you would like to donate, please contact Charlotte Steffen at 314.966.3088 Ext. 105 or charlotte@ldastl.org.

Matching Gifts

Does your company offer a matching gift program? Many companies have a matching gift program as a way to encourage employees to contribute to charitable organizations. Please check with your Human Resources Department to see if your company matches gifts. It’s worth verifying, as your donation could automatically double - making twice the impact on the  lives of children with learning disabilities.

Company Volunteer Program

Many companies will make a donation to St. Louis Learning Disabilities based on the number of hours you volunteer. Whether you are a board member, volunteer at a fundraising event or hosting a gift gathering party – your time could be worth actual dollars to the organization. Check with your Human Resources Department to see if your company participates.

Casual for a Cause (pdf)

Who doesn’t love wearing jeans in the office? Casual days provide an opportunity for employees to dress down and be comfortable while working in an office setting. In order to participate, employees make a small donation to
St. Louis LDA. This is a great way to boost morale plus generate much needed resources for St. Louis LDA.

Many companies have similar programs in place. Make sure you check  with your Human Resources Department to see if your company participates. If so, please nominate
St. Louis LDA to be one of the designated charities. If not, request that your company offer a Casual for a Cause day with proceeds benefiting St. Louis LDA.  This is an incredible way to do something fun that benefits a great cause!
