The educational coaching program may be the perfect fit for your child!
The educational coaching program at St. Louis LDA is a one-on-one mentoring program designed for older students - typically junior high and high school age. Each program is designed to address your child’s specific interests, learning styles, and level of independence.
During the individualized sessions, specific goals are developed with input from your child as well as the St. Louis LDA coach. Possible goals could include identifying strengths and needs related to academics, advocacy, organization, and study skills. Your child will be taught strategies to help them successfully manage the increasing demands of their classes. Strategies may address the areas of:

Managing time

Executive functioning skills

Prioritizing tasks

Utilizing learning styles

Note taking

Reading and highlighting

Pre-writing, writing, and editing

Study skills

Test-taking

Keeping materials organized
A typical session may include review of the previous week’s assignments and grades, planning and prioritizing for upcoming and long-term tasks, applying study skill strategies to assignments, and problem-solving discussions regarding classes and/or teachers. The frequency and duration of the sessions are based on your child’s needs. Typically, students start by coming twice a week. Later, these sessions may taper off to coming once a week or twice a month to maintain the skills learned.
While the educational coaching program is designed for the older students, your elementary-school aged child may be considered for the program.
