History
In December 1966, a group of 16 concerned parents and professionals from St. Louis and Springfield, Missouri met to discuss organizing an association for children with learning disabilities. In 1967, this group became the Learning Disabilities Association of Missouri, acting under the bylaws and charters of the National Learning Disabilities Association.

Volunteers operated out of their homes and received modest grants, which eventually allowed them to open a small office in St. Louis in 1993. Over time, the organization grew, and in 2003, St. Louis LDA became an independent 501©3 organization and moved to its current location at 13537 Barrett Parkway in Ballwin.

Nearly 145,000 people have had contact with St. Louis LDA since our modest beginnings. In 2009, we served 29,573 children, parents, and teachers within the St. Louis community.

As the only organization in the greater St. Louis community providing a comprehensive range of services to children with learning disabilities and/or ADHD, their parents and teachers, St. Louis LDA is funded solely by individuals, corporations, and private foundations. We have never received any state or federal funding and are not a member of the United Way.
