Who We Are

St. Louis Learning Disabilities Association, Inc. (St. Louis LDA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the understanding and acceptance of learning disabilities.  Targeted solutions are developed for children, parents, and professionals to help students maximize their potential in the classroom and in life.

St. Louis LDA is the only organization in Missouri that provides the resources and services we do. We started in 1967 as a resource for families, but quickly realized that families needed both resources and services to help all children learn to the best of their abilities. After much research, St. Louis LDA was launched in 1993 with our first modest grant. We quickly established ourselves in the community, and in 2003 St. Louis LDA became an independent 501c3 organization and moved to our current location at 13537 Barrett Parkway in Ballwin.

St. Louis LDA believes that students and their families are the most successful when surrounded by services. We have a three-pronged approach of testing, tutoring, and advocacy that will work with the family to design a network of support providing educational testing around the student.

Over the last 30 years we have supported learners by surrounding them with services– providing education testing, one on one tutoring, parent coaching and advocacy, early childhood outreach, and workshops. In today’s changing world, we continue to adapt to the needs in the education world for all shareholders. We are proud of the services we can provide to help combat COVID-19 learning loss as well as supporting families and learners in need of help.

Our Mission

Children need hope, understanding and compassion to learn and reach their full potential. St. Louis Learning Disabilities Association helps children by giving them the education and support necessary to be successful.

Our Vision

We continue to serve as the preeminent resource and service provider in the greater St. Louis region, assisting not only students who struggle with learning differences, but also their parents, teachers, school counselors, and doctors.  To that end, we will continue to provide observation, consultation, and diagnostic testing services in order to help identify the best possible options and optimum learning opportunities for students to reach their potential.

Our History

In December 1966, a group of 16 concerned parents and professionals from St. Louis and Springfield, Missouri met to discuss organizing an association for children with learning disabilities. In 1967, this group became the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities, acting under the bylaws and charters of the National Learning Disabilities Association.

Volunteers operated out of their homes and received modest grants, which eventually allowed them to open a small office in St. Louis in 1993. Over time, the organization grew, and in 2003, St. Louis LDA became an independent 501©3 organization and moved to its current location at 13537 Barrett Parkway in Ballwin.

St. Louis LDA has made an impact on over 300,000 children, parents & educators and comprehensive range of services to children with learning disabilities and/or ADHD, language disorders, autism spectrum disorder in the greater St. Louis area.
